The University of East London 2nds came back from a goal down to beat the University College of London 2nds with a Tew-Robinson hat-trick to keep their 100% home record with a 3-1 win.
The opening 20 minutes were dominated by UEL who couldn’t create any guilt edge chances and struggled in the final third, and they were punished for not taking advantage of their early possession after the visitors took a surprising lead. UEL got caught napping at the back, with the UCL centre forward allowed to get a shot away just outside the box, which was parried by Ben Jones straight to the UCL’s number 11 to stun the home side.
UEL were looking to respond immediately and just past the half hour mark UEL’s hard work paid off, Dylan Freehily’s freekick was whipped in superbly for Tew-Robinson to guide the ball in the net for the equaliser.
UEL started the second half much like the end of the first, always looking a threat when going forward and their determination paid off just two minutes into the half, a great ball over the top of the defence by William Semain put in Tew-Robinson who burst into the box and lifted the ball over the keeper at the second time of asking to put UEL into the lead.
It seemed just a matter of time before Tew-Robinson completed his hat-trick, and it came on 54 minutes when he instinctively attacked the defence and took on the back four, found half a yard and got his shot away and slotted it home into the bottom right corner.
With 15 minutes remaining UEL could have had the game out of sight after Shepard went down the far left side and whipped in an inviting cross for Tew-Robinson, who somehow couldn’t tap it home.
UEL held on to their precious 3-1 lead having come from a goal down with the help of a Harry Tew-Robinson hat-trick, who has now scored seven goals in three games.
The East London outfit are now back in the mix at the top, with the home side welcoming The University of Essex 2nds next week in search for back to back home wins.
