Brentwood Town picked up their first win of the season with a comfortable 2-0 home victory against VCD Athletic at the Brentwood Arena.
Two first half goals were the difference between both sides as Ryan O’Rawe sublime strike gave Brentwood the lead. Shad Ngandu doubled Brentwood’s start with a second after great intricate play in the box was tucked away by Ngandu.
Brentwood now move out of the relegation zone (22nd) and move up to 17th in the table.
The visitors almost scored in the opening minute as Alex Teniola turned Ryan O’Rawe and his shot stung the hands of Martyn Guest, to be cleared from danger.
Brentwood took the lead 13 minutes in as a cross field ball from Richie Jones out wide to Ryan O’Rawe. The centre back brought the ball down and bent the shot from just outside the box into the far corner.
Jack Stevenson broke for VCD and slotted in Loick Pires who was through on goal but Guest got a strong right hand, to divert it for a corner.
A long throw for Brentwood nearly double their lead, as Mitch Hahn’s effective throw was met by O’Rawe which was well-saved down low by Rob Budd to his right, for a corner.
Brentwood doubled their lead just after the half hour mark as Ngandu popped the ball to Liam Hope on the edge of the box, who slotted the ball into the space inside the box for Ngandu to tuck home past Budd.
Early in the second half Robbie Rees took his man on and got fortunate as he went past him and his shot at a tight angle was parried by Budd.
‘The Blues’ almost extended their lead as Mitch Hahn was given space out wide, which he put a dangerous low ball across the box which Hope was denied an almost certain goal with a last ditch clearance from Lewis Tozer.
The home side had a dangerous free kick after substitute Daryl Robson was brought down on edge of the box and Hahn stepped up and curled it round the wall but was palmed away by Budd.
Brentwood held off the final remaining pressure from VCD to seal their first win of the season. ‘The Blues’ will go into the Robert Dyas League Cup action on Tuesday at home to Enfield Town.
