UEL concede late to only take point
University of East London 1st conceded late on as they drew 2-2 with Imperial University 1st at Beckton District Park.
Imperial took the lead with a quick fire second half goal but a Stefan Wright header levelled things up shortly after.
UEL gained the lead with just four minutes left as Johan Caney-Bryan slotted home for his 15th goal in eight matches.
An injury-time goal by Imperial spoiled the party for UEL but remain top of the league and unbeaten this season in all competitions.
UEL dominated the early exchanges as the Imperial keeper gave UEL a free-kick after he handled the ball out of his area, Stefan Neilson stepped up but his shot was well held by the keeper.
Dillan Stephenson lifted a great arrowed cross to the far post for an unmarked Shahid Kasako which caused an instinctive reflect save from the keeper.
Kasako kept the ball in play and worked the ball back to Stephenson who ran on to the layoff which fizzed narrowly wide.
Imperial had their first dangerous attack 18 minutes in as the striker found space on the left and his low shot was denied by a fingertip save by Dan Robinson.
The hosts had the majority of possession and played most of the first half in the visitors half but lacked the final pass and cutting edge, as it stayed goalless at the break.
UEL were caught off guard with the defence on the back foot. Imperial scored virtually from the restart as a ball was lifted over the top of the defence and the striker lifted the ball over Robinson to lead.
The goal sparked UEL to live and responded three minutes later as a corner taken by Saio Levi-Blackwood, whipped in at the near post for Wright to power the header down into the bottom corner.
Imperial almost regained the lead minutes later after a corner was not dealt with by UEL and a snap shot on the penalty spot went over.
Stephenson went on a darting run and shrugged of two defenders before getting a shot off and forced a good save down to the keepers’ right at the near post.
UEL grabbed the lead four minutes from time after great work down the left flank, Darren Hammond at the by-line cut it back for Caney-Bryan to slot home in the bottom corner.
East London just had to close out the final minutes but in the 92nd minute the ball was only half cleared, for the Imperial striker to run on to and his shot crept agonisingly past Robinson to equalise.

Goal fest rewards UEL 1st with Quarter-Final
The University of East London progressed to the quarter-finals of The South Eastern Conference Cup with an emphatic 11-1 victory over fellow league opposition Imperial University 1st.
UEL grabbed two hat-tricks, the in-form Johan Caney-Bryan got his three goals in the first half with 14 goals in seven games and recently back from injury Stefan Neilson.
The East London side also got a double brace through Shahid Kasako and Jason Ngandu who now has three goals in two games with the other from Saio Levi-Blackwood.
UEL broke the deadlock 15 minutes in after Caney-Bryan laid off the ball on the edge of the box for Levi-Blackwood to curl his shot past the keeper.
The home side doubled their lead four minutes later after great work from Dillian Stephenson down the right flank and whipped a ball in for Caney-Bryan to tuck in the bottom corner.
The third goal was inevitable as Caney-Bryan squared a ball to Kasako in the box which he lashed inside the far post.
The fourth came almost from the restart after Caney-Bryan involved once again was brought down 20 yards out. Neilson stepped up and fired the free-kick into the far post leaving the keeper no chance, to put UEL in a commanding lead.
UEL got their fifth ten minutes from the break after a long throw from Stefan Wright was headed into the top corner by Caney-Bryan.
Caney-Bryan capped off a comprehensive first-half in added time as he snuck in and poked the ball underneath the keeper.
UEL continued the rout seven minutes into the second-half as the ball fell to Neilson on the edge of the box and his shot was too strong for the Imperial keeper as he parried it into his own net.
Substitute Ngandu made an immediate impact as he burst away down the left, beat the defender and unselfishly cut it back for Neilson to fire home from close range.
The ninth came only a minute later as Ngandu popped up on the right and his individual shot caught the keeper off guard and crept into the top corner.
UEL had to go down to ten men after all substitutes had been used and Wright limped off but that did not stop UEL’s tenth as Kasako’s shot fizzed into the bottom right corner.
Substitute Vendal Nunes got a superb 11th goal as he burst from the right back position beating several Imperial defenders, crossed a low ball into the box for Ngandu to tap in.
Imperial however did get a goal as UEL switched off in final seconds to give them a consolation as UEL progressed to the quarter-finals.
UEL now have another home tie either against Chichester 3rd or Portsmouth 1st in two week’s time.
